Taking away sale maker doesnt fix it as I have been in a store with that option taken away and the links still went away in attributes.
Taking away sale maker doesnt fix it as I have been in a store with that option taken away and the links still went away in attributes.
It fixed it in both of my stores and we've not had the attribute issue since. The only attribute problem we have now is if a designer doesn't set up the attribute properly
The statement that "downloads can not be in subfolders" does not work in all cases. I use subfolders. Have used them since I opened in Jan and used them successfully. I've kept my mouth shut about using mine because it hasn't been brought up until now.
There are two people IN this thread who had access til I blew up my database by accident earlier this month. We just got the customer database back this morning. If those two would like access again to verify it, I will be glad to let them.
HOWEVER, mine are not done by designer name, mine are done by type of product. I have a specific folder for my Designers to access. That is the folder named "Zip Files" at the bottom of the first screen shot.
Only ONE designer has store access besides my co-owner.
The designer has limited access as to where she can ftp. My co-owner has full store access. I am co-owner of a VPS so I have far more "up above" than they do.
See the below screen shots for proof, the order confirmation is from a repeat customer.
It can be done, I do it every day.

OK I probably have said shouldn't be done. It will work for a while and then one day poof the cart will forget where a particular download is. You have been lucky to not have the issue happen to you.

My cart's been running for 15 months with this setup, has moved servers several times, folders have been deleted and new ones added as designers come and go and so far not a single hitch, products have been moved around different categories in admin...if it is just luck that it's worked this long then cross fingers my luck continues LOL :)

I guess all we can say is congratulations,
glad that it works for you,
it dosnt work for all people and when the person who WROTE it says its not designed to work that way then maybe they know what they are talking about.....

I have never once said that Ajeh doesn't know what she's talking about...many of us however are simply stating that it *does* in fact work for us and for quite some time in many cases.
The cases where these issues are happening are by far not the majority of those that are successfully using the same setup, and I do recall in a discussion elsewhere that one store found that some of their downloads were setup up with a / in front of the folder name (as I posted in a previous post) or had a space in the zip name instead of a dash (-) or underscore (_), example... my product.zip instead of my_product.zip, and these may have been causing the attributes to disappear.
Most of us here only want to help each other, NO ONE is trying to say the developers don't know what they are talking about....but it can't be disputed that this system IS working for a lot of us...why not take that as a kudos to Zen Cart?

please understand that my post wasnt directed AT you, but in general to those that it does work for
and I for one am glad that it does work for you.
but the fact remains that it dosnt work like that for everyone, and I wouldnt say which side is the majority...
I know that I have seen and heard more cases of it being broken and NOT working like this,
however I also pointed out that Ajeh ( the person that wrote this chunk of code ) said its NOT supposed to work like you have it....
so rather than telling people how YOU are using it and it works for you, lets support the developers recommendations and save others the heartache and frustration when it dosnt work for them

I understand that....and trust me I don't intend to be argumentative lol I made the statement I did about the majority because in the particular corner of the market I am in there are literally hundreds of scrapbooking stores using zen cart....and you will find that most of them with multiple designers are using the same system...yet it is only a very small amount who are having the same troubles as posted here in this thread, some cases have turned out to be *probably* because of the reasons I already posted.
My point is simply that although it was not designed to work this way, if set up correctly and filenames named correctly it does and even if that's just a fluke of luck, it has worked this way for me for over a year, and I am by FAR the first scrapbooking store out there.....nor am I the ONLY one using it this way....so I for one will continue to and cross fingers that my 'luck' doesn't run out LOL

That is why I did not mention it until it was brought up again in this thread.however I also pointed out that Ajeh ( the person that wrote this chunk of code ) said its NOT supposed to work like you have it....

I did not flaunt the fact that it was working for me. But the fact that it is and apparently is working for others means that the statement that it can't, is not valid.
The statement that it was designed NOT to work that way is accurate however. Zen Cart wasn't not designed to work that way, I will give you that but a handful of us have successfully made it work. And yes, it may blow up on us some day.
IF it does, I promise you, I won't come whining about how it worked and now it isn't. I know it's not suppose to and I am lucky that it is.
