It may be related to the enlarged text in IE. I would try fixing that first, perhaps using an IE "conditional comment" to target only IE browsers.

Hey Glenn, I'm not sure what you mean. What type of change should I make to the text? And just to be sure, you're talking about the search area's input field, right?

I don't know how this will affect comparison with the other site, but you could increase the height of #logoWrapper, make it's background color black, then move logo3 down a little.

As long as logo3 is positioned absolutely where it is, it'll conflict with navMain.

Hey Steve, I wasn't able to make that change since it conflicted with the overall design. However, I solved the problem by going in and making the logo3 image shorter in height.

I think being away from my computer for a couple days allowed me to look at the problem in a new light... I wish I would have thought to do that sooner!!

Re: text size - maybe I should clarify that I am seeing all the text on that site (in IE6) about half again as big as it is in Firefox. I sometimes get that with other sites, but not always, and I have seen screenshots/browsershots from other computers that showed sites with larger text in IE than in other browsers. So it's something about IE that can misbehave in particular (CSS) circumstances, and perhaps only in combination with individual browser settings.

This is my site. I'm using version 1.3.8a.

I've been struggling trying to get the center column to go the full height on all pages. I tried everything listed below:

It works on all of the pages with 2 exceptions; the create account page and the checkout confirmation page. On both of those pages, there is a fixed amount of space at the bottom of the page that the center column won't extend to, or there is a something with my default background color over-riding the white center column (I don't know which).

Any help would be much appreciated.
