Unique sub categories image

Is there a way to upload a unique sub categories image? I want to use an image that is different than the main image on the product listing.

Yes, each category can have one image, just edit the category you want to chnage the image and upload new image. It should work, unless your current template does not support it, then you will have to check and fix that.

I think I may have asked the wrong question. I want the product listing image to be different than the main image on the product page. Is that possible?

Click on Pre-Designed Custom Labels (I have it set up) and you will see the main image on the product page is the same as the product listing. Can I make these images different?

I'm afraid it's not possible without customizing the code.

First you need a way to store the different image of that product, then you will have to have a way to get that image when you display the product info, for example you can use the product_id.jpg

And then you can modify the main product image template to check if the current product has an alternative image, then you display it instead. It's just one of many ways.
