changing background image and header

Hi, I am still learning all the ins and outs, but purchased this site already set up and would like to change out the header and the background, can you help? thanks.

If you call up the site, then right-click your mouse and VIEW PAGE SOURCE, you will see the paths to the various images.

Simply note down those paths, create NEW images of your own with the same name and format, and FTP these to the appropriate images directory (for these images, usually the images folder in the site's template directory).

If you use Firefox Broswer, get the Web Developer Toolkit add-on, and this will help you analyse all sorts of aspects of a page displayed in a browser.

... actually, I'm being a bit unfair... PAGE SOURCE will not reveal these paths because they are both stylesheet declarations.

However, Firefox web developer will reveal the paths.

They are:

Thanks so much for the help, I think I have it all figured out, but I just realized that the pink boxes might be the wrong color, how do I change the color code for those? (like the search box, categories) and also the "would you like to log in" text is a little off as well. Thanks in advance.

Here's a nifty online tool that allows you to choose a colour visually, then capture its HEX CODE:

Most of the colour declarations are in your stylesheet, or can be added to the stylesheet if you want them...

sorry I really am clueless, I purchased this site already set up and am trying to learn from scratch, where do I find the style sheet? I do know html, but really lost with zencart. Thanks, kathleen

The stylesheet should be in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css (where YOUR_TEMPLATE is the name of your custom template).

If you have (or get) the Firefox browser, get the webdeveloper addon which will allow you to tinker with the stylesheet and see the changes on the fly. You'll have to save the stylesheet locally and FTP it to your website.

When using Zen Cart, you need a good text editor like Crimson Editor or Notepad++ and an FTP client like Filezilla. All are free downloads on the net.

Hi

I have installed a new site and added a template all OK.

I went into ftp to put in a header but I cannot find anywhere to put it there don't appear to be any mention of logo as in my site. I have viewed page source and found logo.gif but my header is logo_bg.jpg would I need my header to be in gif format please the same as what is in the header on the template.
