Default Change Images Directory On the Server

I am having problems with my images. I have more than 24,000 Image in my images file. Now the ftp is not handling the images file properly, whenever I try to upload new images they are not uploaded to the server. Is there a way to start a new folder for the images and without affecting the store. I do have the following mods which directly affect the images folder: Image Handler and Hover Box3?

You have them all in the base images directory or do you have them in subdirectories inside the images?

well, what I use to do is just open the images folder in the public_html and upload my images from the suppliers there in bulk. Then when I use Easy Populate to add new product I just include the image name in the column for the images in EP such as "image.jpg" then when I go to the store front the image is there.

Now the hosting company is telling me that I have 24K images in that folder so the ftp program can't handle that. They advised me to create another directory to my images which makes sense if I knew how to do it. Note that I have other mods installed on the server and site is live so I can't afford to screw things up. Which is why I am asking for help.

is not that FTP has problem , before you can send file to image folder , ftp needs to read files from Images folder , and you got 24k images.

maybe you want to create sub folders and upload your new images to those sub's ?

thats what i did with one zencart , due to many suppliers .i named each sub's after the supplier name and this way is easier for site owner to upload either through zencart , or through FTP ..

So let me get this straight. If i create a sub-folder in my images folder for example images_1 and upload the images to it. They will show up on the product info page?
Note that I am using Easy Populate to add the product not the zen cart admin page which will allow you to choose the images folder from the drop down menu.

all you have to do with EP ,is too append Images_1/ to image name

    images_1/myimage.jpg

you are currently using EP by only adding image name , no folder , or subfolder . ie : myimage.jpg ,and ZC uses the configure.php entry ( "images/") to create the path to image. the extra sub name should point zencart to correct location of your new images as long as your sub folders are contained within Images folder . new subfolder will not alter current operation of your zc, because correct path to your 24k images are in db ..

however, you may still have problem with FTP , due to the fact that all your images are in images folder , but subfolder might solve problem that you mentioned .. ( not uploading ) .

Now that you mentioned the ftp. even if I create a sub-folder in the images file I will not be able to access that file in the ftp program. ftp programs only show the first 2000 or so files in the folder which are pure images. It doesn't even display the manufacturer or categories images. So even if I create an images_1 folder inside images I will not be able to upload any images to it using the ftp.

I figured out the issue with the images.
If anyone reading this post have the same issue, check the image name and make sure the .jpg is not in CAPS. The issue on my site was that the new images I added where all .JPG so I had to change that back to .jpg.
