    Default USPS wrong weights?

I have setup weights for my products.
One product for example is 4OZ so I put 0.25 in the shipping weight.

I noticed it wasnt showing the first class option (13oz or less). and then I noticed why.

It shows United States Postal Service (1 x 3.25lbs)
0.25 weight itsn't 3.25 LBS... Why is this module showing 3.25LBS instead of 4 OZ?

    Any help?

You need to change the tare settings. Tare is used to compensate for the weight of packaging.

    Configuration > Shipping/Packaging > Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight

The default settings are wrong. I changed my setting to 10:.5 to get USPS calculations to be more accurate.

Thanks for the info looks like it worked great.

Is there a way to add like 50 cents for the cost of the box or whatever? Is this the place it would be done?

Tare doesn't directly cover the cost of the box. It just compensates for the weight of the box and packaging materials. Tare is based upon weight.

You can add $0.50 to the shipping estimate for both UPS and US Postal Service. If you use either of those modules, you will see it in the setup.

this is true or you can use the tare to compensate not only for the weight of the box but to add a little weight to cover the cost of the box and other packing materials as well
