Installing on Vista

I have downloaded the XAMPP and am having trouble getting it to work on Vista. MySQL will not start and neither will Apache. Mercury starts ok.

I have turned off the User account logging as suggested but still no joy. Searching on the web suggests that perhaps it doesn't wotk on Vista. Have also tried turning off the firewall and Defender.

If you start xampp, and you see the it quickly turns from start to stop, then it may be the case that some program is running on the same port (for example, on my machine skype used to run on the same port 80). You can change the port apache and mysql uses.
