Ive managed to get conditional attributes working, with a few caveats.
If anyones interested i'll write it up into a tutorial and post it for general consumption. Let me know if you want me to :)

Yes, please, I think you'll find one or two people who would really like this :)
Okidokie.... ill put together a small tutorial for getting it going.
As I said there are some caveats, this is mainly because ive only set things up to work for my specific requirements at the moment. If i get chance ill work something out to get around them, it shouldnt be too hard. but, if i dont get chance ill post the guid to acheive the same as I have, and then im sure others will take it to the next step.
Hopefully get something up in the next week, or when i stop my clients from ringing me with goddamn brief changes all the time grrrr

Creating conditional attributes has always been possible. The challenge has been finding a generic way of doing that which wasn't so complex as to be incomprehensible to anyone other than the author. I too will be interested to see the approach that you've used.

Accurax, did you put together the tutorial on conditional attributes? I searched under Tutorial but didn't find it. I think it might help me if by "conditional attribute" you mean an attribute that can be chosen only if a particular (previous) attribute was chosen. Is that what you mean?
