My Pages Shift back and forth

Here's my relevant information as requested for the post....

I am using ZenCart ver 1.3.8.a
I loaded ZC using my hosting providers console. It hasn't been upgraded since I built my site,
I customized my site using template overides. Followed instructions in the Zen Cart book Chapter 17 Advanced Customization.

As you can see, when you click on different links, the pages shift back and forth. The problem started when I switched from classic to my template and began using the "overide" system.

I've been through the FAQ's and didn't see anything there about how to fix it. I've also searched the forum and anything that came close really didn't provide a solution.

I'm sure someone in here can point me in the right direction pretty quickly, so thanks in advance for any help.

Hi. I seem to be the only person on here but im on my mobile. Could you describe whats happening as i cant view pages in html.

Are you talking about the fact that the shorter pages do not have a vertical scroll bar when you are view them on a widescreen monitor?

Sure. Here is what is happening. I've installed ZenCart and created some template overides as described in the book Chapter 17 - Advanced Customization. I created the /includes/templates/<custom> directory and copied everything from /includes/templates/classic into my new directory. Then I made some changes to the text portion of the custom files.

When I click on a link like "Shipping & Returns" my page shifts slightly to the right. Then when I click on "Home" my page shifts back. This happens on only a few pages. Some of my pages are perfectly aligned and don't shift and some do.

I can't figure out why this is happening because I thought the whole layout of the site was controlled from the CSS files. And I am using only 1 CSS file for the whole website. I still using the default one that came with the classic template.

What browser are you using? I can't see any "shifting" in Firefox. The scrollbar effect could be the cause (only visible if you have a monitor large enough for some pages to fit completely onscreen).

Kim... I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about the vertical scroll bar. I see that gjh42 mentioned too. I do have a wide screen monitor (26" HD) and I've expanded the browser window to max and I do not see any scroll bars.

gjh42.... I am using Firefox also. Ver 3.0.4 I tried it in IE also and I saw the same thing. I also tried it on my wife's computer and saw the shifting.

It's funny you don't see it. I've attached a SWF to page 2 of my store so you can see what i'm talking about. I couldn't attach it here because it's too large. When you watch the flash video, you will definitely see a shift when I click from "Home" to"Shipping" and then back to "Home" and the other links. Not all do it.

Well here's a reply to my own post. I just posted the flash video of my shifting pages and when I went back to my site to see if the link to the SWF works, I don't see any shifting on my site anymore. I must be going nuts. I'm glad I made the video to document the shifting before it magically went away, otherwise, since I am a nooob here, you guys probably wouldn't believe me.

The only thing I changed was that I copied the define_page_2.php file into my custom directory so that I could modify to add the flash video for you folks. I wonder if that made a difference since I don't see the shifting now.
