How to Display Discounted Product Price

Using 1.3.8 and very happy with how it works. Learning 'how' it works has been an interesting journey. When I have been stuck, the Forum has been quick to help me find my error and get it fixed...THANKS!

However, I think I have a simple issue/request, but the remedies seem too complicated...

I have a number of Discount Groups for different customers. Each group gets a straight percentage discount off the Item price.

When a customer logs in, we want them to see their discounted price - preferably along with the MSRP - so they better appreciate their discount.

Currently, Zen's discounts do not appear until Checking Out - which is not good for us. The "Dual Pricing" and similar add-ons appear to provide the Retail/Discount price appearances, but we have to maintain 4 levels of pricing for every item.

This seems a lot of maintenance work for each Item when we are using simply percentage discounts.

Is there a simpler way to do this? If a registered (or unregistered) customer does not belong to a Discount Group, then they only see the Item Price. If they belong to a specific Discount Group, then they would see the MSRP plus their calculated discount would also appear on the Item page.

If that discount also appeared in the Shopping Cart, that would be closer to perfection - but then the Shopping Cart may also want to take their discount again during CheckOut.

My customers could tolerate the Shopping Cart error if they could see their discount at CheckOut - because they primarily need to see their discounted price when shopping.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I think there is a MSRP module in the Free Add-ons section...

Unfortunately, this add-on doesn't apply.

I am selling products that I produce -so I am my own MSRP!

I need my 'wholesale' customers to see their discounted prices when shopping. (Reps get 10-15%, Dealers get 25-30%, Distributors get 40-45%, etc.)

Logically, it is simple: When a page is viewed, Display the Product Price (as normal); If the customer is logged in and has a discount, display their reduced price adjacent to it; If not logged in or a discount is not present, then skip it.

However, this is not as simple as the logic...

The 'Dual Price' add-on would accomplish what we want to see, but it requires maintaining 4 price levels. That seems to be more work and we currently have 6 levels...

Please let me know if you find a answer to this problem. I have many customers that are in multiple discount groups and it would be nice to display their price for them before the checkout area. I set an MSRP and then put customers in a discount group where they get a discount off of MSRP.

Maybe some one could write a mod for this??

Seems to me that code could be added to my template that would display the discount price if the customer is logged in and in a group!!!

I, too, have hoped that someone would have an 'already proven' solution.

Therefore, I have contacted someone to write the code for me - at a price.

I will post again in a couple weeks after we have it installed and working. I will let everyone know how it works!

installed with 1.3.8 and works great

it is a little more difficult to install than some other mods that i have installed because you have to run some sql patches (admin section, tools, run sql patches) but I did it (after backing up my whole site and databases) without any problems.

Installed my custom app from Scott Wilson this week-end and wanted to let anyone/everyone know it works just as I hoped it would...

If a customer is part of a Group Discount, their Price-Discount shows up next to the 'Starting at' price when they aer browsing through Product Pages. So, they see side-by-side their discount. Also, in the Shopping Cart Side Box, they see their discount amount and reduced total.

If a customer is not a member of a Discount group (ie Retail), nothing is visible (they won't know what they are missing...)

This makes it easy for us to administrate (by Discount Group) and clearly displayed for our customer before they get to the Checkout stage....
