    Default No domain (temporarily) - how to install on dedicated IP?

    I'm using 1.3.8a on a linux server, new install.
    I'm setting it up so that after it's ready, my friend can swap her domain over from her old host to the new hosting, with it all ready to go.
    I've got a dedicated IP (http://117.55.236.152) so I can access cpanel and the site to add products/modules etc. I haven't added anything yet, its just a standard install. I did change configure.php in includes and admin/includes so it says the host is the IP above.

    Now ... none of the images are showing, and it won't go to the admin (http://117.55.236.152/admin redirects to discountscrapbooking.com.au/admin) so obviously there is something somewhere that is messing it up. How do I fix it? Or is there a better way to work on this temporarily until I can get it all as she wants it, and then change over the domain?

    Thanks for any help,
    Raina

    Simply set the HTTP_SERVER in both of your configure.php files to point to the correct IP address.
    Make sure you make your configure.php files writable before trying to upload your changes to the server, and make them read-only again when done.

    I installed using the Fantastico script which I suspect is part of the problem, so will install from scratch again.

    Will there be a problem when the domain actually does get used for the site? What will I need to change to change it from IP based to domain based, once everything is set up?

    Thanks so much for your help :)

    You can still edit the config file even though you install using Fantastico. Fantastico by default used the domain name, you just need to change that in the 2 config files to use the ip address.

    When you are ready to switch to the domain name just edit the config files to reflect the change

    I did try this first up (editing the files) but no dice ... and now I've attempted installing a new install from scratch on a subdirectory, and can't even access the subdirectory without it redirecting to the domain.

    http://117.55.236.152/shop -> http://discountscrapbooking.com.au/shop

    So I suspect it's something set in the hosting, and I've emailed my hosting admin to see if he knows what it is.

    Thanks for the advice :)
