Large Package

I'm using the most recent version of Zen Cart, and I've got no add-ons. I've searched the FAQ and the forum for this information, but I'm stumped.

There is an option in the shipping settings to allow you to choose a different package weight for large packages than you have for small/med packages.

But where on earth do you indicate that a product requires a large package?

Have a look at this thread. It gives you some ideas of what the current logic is.

I've seen discussions about using the weight field in the product info in admin to add a fee, but doing this is a switch that affects all products, not just some.

You may also want to look into some of the Free Software Add Ons (link above).

Finally, some of the shipping modules, for example the Canada Post one, create extra fields in product info so you can indicate dimensions as well as weight per product. I think eventually (maybe in v2.0?) this will be available by default.

Awww, I was hoping for an EASY way to charge an extra fee for boxed items, as most of my items are sent in envelopes. Back to the drawing board.

Perhaps the easiest way would be to add a few dollars to the cost of the large items -- enough to cover the extra packaging costs -- as long as you're not in a price-competitive market. And if you're not, tell me which market you're in!
