Strange character showing before £ sign!!

Now I have done a few ZC sites in my time but I have never seen the following strane anomoly:

Everywhere on my site where it should show a £ sign it actually shows £10 - wher the heck does the  come from.

This also shows in my emails generated from my site.

Is this an easy one or can anybody show me how to resolve please.

Just to add - I have now found other posts that suggest a fix by changing the code in Configuration -> Email Options and I have now done this - but - any text changes that I make around the site where I use the £ sign still shows this strange character.

Hi, I too had this problem for a while until I went to:

admin/localization/GB Pound/edit

I think that someone had mistyped the display £ option in the Symbol Left box. I changed it to "£" which makes the £ symbol appear throughout the site. worth a look.

I'm hazzy on the details, but basically this sounds like an encoding issue. The "£" has been entered with one encoding but is now being interpreted under another. Using the HTML entity "£" instead as suggested by J#xx would get around this.

Hmmmm

Still having trouble wit this problem.

I am seeing the weird symbol error around the site but even after trying all the fixes I cannot seem to shift it.

Any further suggestions would really help.

By the way I am using a mac program called Smultron to edit and re-upload file changes using Unicode (UTF-8) encoding (the default setting) if this helps.
