Default alt_nav.php took over NEW install

version 1.3.8, brand new, no mods, the admin defaults to the alt_nav.php. I don't care why, but would really like to get an admin section which works properly, how do I get rid of this alt_nav.php links in the admin, please spell it out, what code I need to alter into what...?

    thanks loads,

    JSC

By "takes over the admin" what exactly do you mean? Do you mean that you don't have the dropdown menus appearing? Or is it defaulting to the alt_nav page when you first login?

Check that you have all the css files installed correctly, especially admin/includes/menu.css.

It's OK.... it is only the headings of the menus, in other words the top level of the menus that are all alt_nav links. Everything in the drop downs are going to the real links and do not alter the layout. So I will only use links in the drop downs, and not the main headings and that will do. Still I wonder what the point of the whole alt_nav thing is. I have not checked the admin menu.css, as it was a brand new install with no alterations (1.3.8a).
    thanks,

The main heading links go to in the alt_nav page in case the drop menus fail on any system, and then render the admin menus useless. At least this way they then take you to a menu page where you can then reach any other admin pages.
