PS - Obviously this updates ALL products within your database! If you want to only do selected items, then these need to be done either one at a time, or using the EasyPopulate routine, and then use excel or similar to update the exported file, before re-importing all the products.

Thanks for your help, VAT is now being calculated in the total shown to the customer on checkout, but it doesn't display "VAT" and the amount, just adds it up invisibly.

    Any ideas ?

    Kind Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Folks,

I do not know what VAT is but I am now running into the mess of dealing with taxes. Particularly in MA, FL, NY and CA. I have been absorbing the taxes till now but need to start charging customers tax for these states.

I tried setting up taxes but it listed all the states on the checkout page not just for the ship to address state.

Also, how can we break down the tax rates to each county level?

Lastly, is there a way for a Tax Exempt customer to enter a code to bypass sales tax upon checkout?

    Thank you so much.

Dr. Byte or another Admin, would you be kind enough to list some thread links to newbie's just beginning with the whole tax thing?

You will need to look up details of how to use Tax Zones. there is a whole host of information on how to use EVERY section of Zen hidden behind the Wiki Link at the top of support site. Take a look at http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p...es_Definitions and the relecant links from this page. That should point you in the right direction.

As for VAT, it is the name given to the tax on goods in the UK. (Value Added Tax)

    Good luck,

Thanks for the info. This is the first time that I saw the Wiki. Pretty cool. I will have to play around with the tax thing in my demo site to get it working before going live with it. What a pain. Oh well.
