    Default Moving the Data to the new DB

    Hi All,

    I am after a bit of guidance. I have a shop I am working on and I started development on 1.3.7 however I want to upgrade to 1.3.8a. I have installed a second cart on my pc and have installed my addons (IH2 and EasyPopulate) both of which have installed fine.

    I have now tried backing up my old db and importing it to the new cart. I get a message saying that some 200 odd query executions were made. However when i log into my second cart nont of the categories or products are there only the demo data I had previously installed.

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards,

    Ian

    You're using different table-prefixes in your different databases, which is why after importing you see no change in the data ... because your import loaded a whole different set of tablenames.
    You'll need to update your new site's DB_PREFIX setting in your configure.php files to match the prefix you used on the old site.
    Then you'll need to do the database-upgrade using zc_install

    And, then any database updates for any addons you've installed on the new site will have to be redone.

    Basically, you're doing an upgrade. You'll find upgrade documentation in the FAQ area, as well as in the /docs/ folder of your site files.

    Thanks DrByte. That did the trick, I suppose the docs on upgrading got a little confusing with all the winmerge stuff. I jsut assumed as I was just taking the data over to clean install I could just export an import.

    Anyhow using the install folder and running the DB upgrade did the trick.

    Thanks again

    ok I want to make sure this will do the trick for me, before I go screw up the db.... going from 1.3.7 (mysql 4.1) to 1.3.8 (mysql 5.0);

    I was at one time playing with 138a on a new install, and created some new categories, sub categories, etc., all the while my 137 store was fully active. Recently I moved all my sites to a virtual server, and while in transition I installed a new store, after backing up store and db, then ftp the 1.3.8 stores back up (one I was playing with) and overwrote the new install. Then I dropped the tables on the new db, and imported the old db, and wahla it worked (after numerous attempts).

    So now I want to import my mysql 4.1 db (from 1.3.7) into the 1.3.8a store and db... do I follow this thread to "upgrade" my db? or should i try a different way.

    Thanks

    update: looks like everything went well, I now have the old db from 137 working in the new store of 138. I followed the info above and it worked fine, for those wondering.
