Downloads, Attributes, & "Please Choose"

Hi,
I'm running Zen-Cart 1.3.8, with Cherry Zen template, & Image Handler2. It is a new install of everything. I've everything working fine, except I'm trying to customize the page & I followed the tut for hiding "Please Choose" located HERE.
Needless to say, I had to upload my back ups because it didn't work. I set up my attributes as per the manual, but I'm getting this error message.

Options are set as follows:
Option name: download Option Type: Dropdown

I've tried both dropdown & radio button, but I still get the error message: Please correct the following:
On the Option for: download You picked an Invalid Selection: zip

I'd also like to know (in simple terms, please) how to do the following:
Default this option as the only one available & bypass that stupid "please choose" message.

Via admin, turn off all currencies except dollars...

Ok, I got past the errors by adding a new attribute & applying it to the products. However, now I'm getting this error during checkout of a free item.

Hi Again,
I still haven't figured out how to get rid of "Please Choose" What do I need to turn off in Product Type Info Page Layout options :: Product - General so that the "Please Choose" & the box goes away? I have the latest Zen Cart installed.
