How do I use two images of the same product ?

I am a dinosaur, so please forgive me. Currently I am using one image for product on my site which can be enlarged, but is making my site sluggish. How do I use two images (100 x 100 for thumbnail & 300 x 300 for large) for each product? Thank you for any and all help.

The ideal setup is to actually use three images - your 100x100 image (in this example we'll assume that image file is named product.jpg) is what you upload from admin when creating/editing a product, goes in the /images folder and is used on product listing pages.
A medium size image (the actual size that you use on your product info pages) would be named product_MED.jpg and uploaded to the /images/medium folder on the server.
A large size image (that is displayed in a pop-up window when you click the enlarge image link) would be named product_LRG.jpg and uploaded to the images/large folder on your server.

Alternatively, a 3rd party module Image Handler or IH2 is available in the downloads section that dynamically uses one image and creates the others

I just added the image handler and tested it. I displayed the three images, however the large image was way too large. I thought the image handler resizes the images according to the way each size is configured in zen cart. What are the procedures using image hanler?

Set your image sizes
Admin-->Configuration-->Images

With IH installed, you now can set the size for the large image.

I originally did that and then it worked, but since I uploaded IH the image size does not work. I upload IH to my server, but that's all I did. Should it be in a certain file to work and should I unzip the file before its uploaded or after. I'm really new with this, so i appreciate your help,

Unzip the files on your pc, and read the readme or install file in the package for complete instructions. FTP the unzipped file/folder structure to your server as directed.
You will probably also need to run a SQL patch, again per the readme.

IH2 adds parameters under admin>configuration>images, so check there.
