Need help with text attributes

I don't know, maybe I am just really dense but I cannot for the life of me set up text attributes. I have tried following all instructions that I can find for setting up text attributes but it's just not happening for me.

This is what I'm doing, can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Option Names > Give My Option a Name, specify sort order and "text" as the option type. Now I see my attribute listed...so on to
Attribute Controller - select my product, scroll down to Adding New Attributes, where I'm supposed to be able to select my option from the list of "option names" - but it's not there. I've done this about 2 dozen times, no option that is specified as a Text Option Type ever appears in the list.

Thanks Misty, but I've read that one numerous times. I've read every thread I could find on text attributes, and I've tried the SQL patch in this one which seems to work for everyone else. I still have no Text Attributes in the "ADDING NEW ATTRIBUTES" scroll down box.

This is really frustrating -- if I can't use text attributes I can't use Zen Cart. I have too many personalized products

For anyone else having a problem with text attributes, install THIS patch:
