    Default Location Of Subcategories

I would like to have my main categories listed in the categories box on the left of the page but when someone clicks on a main category, I want to display the subcategory in the main column with photos like this: http://(sorry, site offline)/138/ind...=index&cPath=1

Can someone help me with this? Also, If those subcategories have their own subcategories, is it possible to create another subcategory list like this?

I am not sure where to start? Thanks in advance!

There are settings on the Configuration ... Layout Settings ... where you can suppress the display of the Subcategories on the Categories sidebox and just the middle will display the subcategories when a main top cat is selected:
Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories
    Always Show Categories and SubCategories
0= off, just show Top Categories
1= on, Always show Categories and SubCategories when selected

Is there another setting that would be blocking the main column subcategories?

Subcategories show up just fine in the sidebox text links, but I could NEVER get the categories to show up in the main column. Only on the 'main' page was I able to get subcategories to show in main column with the 'Categories - Always Show on Main Page' setting.

When I tried the suggestion above, all it would do is enable/disable the sidebox subcategory listings with no effect at all on the main column.

Thanks for any help with this...

Do a search in the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... in the bottom input box for:
    category_row

On any of the lines starting with:
    require

    are any commented out?

You should see the default files and any override files where calls to the related files are used ...

NOTE: If you are missing the "require" lines in your override files then the code has been removed so the switch will not work ...

I can't get them to show either...

I checked for "require" lines, they're all there, but the subcategories pictures are still not showing. What else could it be?

Mishutkadesign, it looks like your site is displaying the subcategories in the main column. However if 'category images' are not specified for each subcategory, only the text links will show in the main column. Click on the green 'e' circle to edit the subcategory information content and then near the bottom you can browse to find a 'Category image'.

No luck for my site displaying subcategories in the main column yet. After some trial and error I did enable the main categories to show on the main page (store homepage) but still no subcategories in main column when clicking on regular categories. CSS code is still very cryptic to me. I tried the above suggestion and one of the 3 CSS files did not have the 'require' code so I need to know how to find the default file to restore the code. If anyone knows the answer, thanks for the help.

NOTE: you have double slashes in your URL which makes me think you have errors in your files:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

Finally I understand the proper category/product hierarchy in zencart. Even though I had both products and subcategories within categories the cart seemed to work just fine except for 1 or 2 annoyances. Now subcategory thumbnail images appear on categories, which makes site much more user friendly. Subcategories titled 'All' let consumers see all linked products for a particular category if they prefer to browse all at once.
