help question Selling downloadable products for mobile phones

    Hi,

I just want to know if it is possible to sell downloadable products for mobile phones. I know that zen-cart is not visible directly from a mobile phone. What I am thinking is to set up a redirecting page after the payment is made. The address of this page would be accessed from a mobile phone to download the product.
    How could I do that?
    Thanks in advance

This may be relevant for you: Who wants an iPhone or BB Zencart app?

At least there is a collection of people discusssing mobile phones and ZC. ZC could be templated to be useable from a mobile phone.

Thanks for the information, although unfortunately it is not useful. I am not interested in being able to see the admin page in my mobile phone, nor showing the whole zen-cart site for mobile phones. I dont think that these features are so interesting or useful.
I just need a page for selling downloadable products to be downloaded directly to mobile phones, since the product is designed especifically to be used in a mobile phone.
Please, any help on this would be apprecciated. If some developper can assist me in doing that, I can pay.
The idea is basically the following:
    1. Customer access zen-cart from their computers.
    2. They check the products and place orders from their computers.
    3. They make the payment
    4. In the confirmation email it should be included a link that can be accessed from their mobile phone to download the product.
    5. Only one successful download would be allowed.

Please note that I mean regular mobilephones, not only iphones. My target market is mobile phones in Japan (which all of them have internet capability)

    Thanks in advance.

So as a minimum, you would need to be able to log in or otherwise enter an access code from your phone to identify the device that can download the product, and go to the download page/link with the phone. That's only two pages that really need a phone-friendly interface. Someone who knows how mobile phone apps work should be able to get that going quickly.

At a high level, I suspect it could look like this:

    a. Purchase is made using your regular store, whether via mobile phone or regular internet browser
    b. Confirmation email is sent, as it is today
    c. The confirmation email could include a customized link to a special URL (subdomain perhaps?) that you've configured to use a stripped-down template
    d. Either way, the customer logs into their My Account area to authenticate, and then clicks the download link
    e. Depending on the MIME type of the file being downloaded, you might have to customize the headers sent by the download code or specify a particular protocol to be used for the transfer, etc.

    (c) and (e) might require you to do some custom coding to handle custom templates and specialized download needs.

    Hi, Thanks for your help.
I am planning a package of jpeg files to be downloaded from mobile phones, would that need some programming?

Depends what you mean by "package". But, yes, you'll have to do some custom coding to handle your requirements.

    Hi,

Thanks again for your reply and help. I would like to sell books for mobile phones. These books would consist in a bunch of jpeg files to be downloaded to the buyer's mobile phones. Is there some compression method for mobile phones to put all jpeg files into a single file? Would it a very complicated coding?

Sorry, I'm afraid you're likely going to need to research the mobile-phone technology before you decide on your delivery method from your ecommerce software. Zen Cart can be customized to do almost anything you like, depending on your budget and needs. But you'll need to determine your specific technical requirements before you bother customizing the software.
