Default Need help installing a free custom template

I downloaded the desert noon template from (sorry, site offline).

I am a complete newbie and I can't figure out how to install this template.

    My server is hostgator.

I don't know where to put all the folders that are in the 'includes' folder, and I can't seem to figure out how to upload the entire 'includes' folder at once.

I have read other threads about this and I am totally confused.

Your help is very much appreciated.

There should be instructions included with the template.

To upload the template to your website, you need an FTP client like Filezilla (free download on the net). You'd 'drag" the includes folder to the root of your Zen Cart and the FTP client should do the rest. Alternately, you can open the includes folder for the template in the local window of the FTP client and the includes folder in the remote window and drag the individual folders/files to the correct places.

After that, go into your admin and select the new template under tools>template selection. Don't forget to reset the sideboxes as well.

Thanks for the reply. I did as you said and installed filezilla. However, I am having problems configuring my router to allow filezilla to connect to my server. This is just another problem for me to have to figure out.

Just curious if there is another way to upload the new template with using an FTP?

When you say your "Router" is not allowing filezilla to connect, what you are probably experiencing is that you are being prevented from making a FTP connection.

Is this a private router? Or are you working on some large company network that has a sophisticated firewall in place?

FTP is the only practical and "sensible" way of uploading files to a server. Some host admin C-Panel configurations have file upload facilities.

If your C-Panel allows upload of a ZIP file (to be uncompressed on the server), you could try this - creating a separate directory to house the unzipped files, which you then move to their appropriate directories in your ZC setup.

Yes I have a private router. Filezilla is not able to connect to the server because of a firewall or router. I have gone into my firewall and made the necessary adjustments. So, I am assuming that my router settings need to be adjusted.

I have never had to mess around with router settings before. At this point I haven't even been able to access my router settings, I am still trying to figure out how to do that.

I am very new to all of this. I guess I just have to be patient and enjoy the learning process, just hope I still have some hair left when I get it all worked out

I will try to do what you said in my cpanel and see what happens.

    Thanks!

okay, I was able to upload the zip file to my c-panel.

It is very confusing to figure out where these folders need to be placed. I guess that is why you use an FTP.

Any advice on an easy method to figure out the correct directories to put the files without becoming TOTALLY confused?

I may be working on this for a while!

Have you unzipped the ZC package? If so, the files are presumably in a folder called something like /zen_cart_v_1_3_8a_full_fileset/. If you want to install ZC in the root of your site (so that www.yoursite.com goes directly to the store), move all of the folders and files in the /zen_cart... folder down to the /public_html/ folder.
If you want to have your store address be www.yoursite.com/store/, just rename the /zen_cart... folder to /store/.
