New to Zencart question: how long to set up shop?

Hi

I may be working for a client who has had Zencart recommended to them.

My question is, in people's experience, how long would it take to get up to speed and create a basic functioning site, given:

1)The site will have about 80 products in 8 catagories, 7 information pages & order tracking with a standard 2 or 3 fixed column layout and be available in multiple languages. All the assets will be provided.

2) I have many years experience with LAMP technologies, and am comfortable programming in PHP and using MySql, HTML and CSS and have experience of using content management systems such as typo3 and ModX, but have not used a shopping cart system before.

Any ideas, thoughts would be very helpful.

Lets be real, with your knowledge and experience no more then a few hours, for template alteration work give it 1 day or 2, and with template scratch work no more than a few days.

It doesn't sound like you will need to do any serious amount of actual programming to achieve the features you describe, as they are included in the standard Zen Cart installation. The time will be in becoming familiar with using the features (some of the admin is not intuitive). Get the e-start book (link at top of this page), as it will walk you through all of the setup steps.
You have an advantage over the typical new user, as you will not need to take time to learn about concepts like editing stylesheets. Still, there is a learning curve - your first ZC site will take many times as long as your tenth.
