    Default Problems going live

OK, so I built my shiny new zencart with its root folder as a subfolder of my current site.I chose all my new colours and formatting, installed modules, learned loads about code, and generally had a jolly good time. Last night, with finishing touches done, I was ready to go live. I had a cunning plan. Rather than move the root folder, I just redirected my subdomain to my cart. Mohammed to the mountain, and all that...I mean, what could go wrong? I went to bed, hoping it would have propogated overnight.

This morning, the site is there alright, but with no images, formatting, css. I can't log in to admin, because the browser throws a 404. The files are all still there, because I can see them through my ftp. I'm guessing that I need to change a few lines in index files etc. but don't know which ones. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

From your post isn't quite clear what you have done.
    - can you post your site URL ?

If... you have done all job on your local server and then uploaded to your server you should:
    - see your configure.php files in:
    includes/configure.php and
admin/includes/configure.php ( this one specially because you
said you can't get your admin page )

and change paths from your local to server paths to link them to MySQL database on your server.
You don't need to change anything in index.php

If ... you have made your categories and loaded some products, then you'll have to transfer your database datas from local to server MySQL database as well. ( that's about problem that you don't see your products - if I understood you well )

About redirection - some more information will be nice.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have not moved the root folder at all, it's exactly where it always has been. all I have done is redirect my domain to the folder where my cart is. Instead of pointing to off-mandrel.com (old site) it now points to off-mandrel.com/zen(new site). I did this in order to preserve the old site so that I can switch back if I need to, again by redirecting the domain.
Since the cart itself has never moved, I assumed I would not need to make changes to configure.php (the paths should all remain the same).
    Does that make more sense?
    URL is http://o f f - m a n d r e l .com
    Regards,

    Sean

    I've checked your site, so..
I'll suggest you to go step back and dissable that redirection.
I think that you redirect already redirected site.

Then you shold get your site by URL:

    http://hamiltontaylor.co.uk/offmandrel/zen/

If everything is OK - then you know that your redirection wasn't good.

Well, I've pointed the domain back at its original location, and so far just see an apache splash screen. I guess I need to wait for it to propagate again.....

No - you don't have to wait - if your domain point the right location you should have your site visible.

If you would like, and if you can trust me - send me PM with your username and pass to cpanel so that I can check it.

Problem semi-resolved: host had to re-sync DNS (see? I know what I'm talking about...)

In the hooha I've lost my ssl cert, so can't log in to admin. Ticket raised with host. Old site back up now, so not desparate.

    Thanks for your help!

    Cheers,

    Sean
