Show SubCategories on Main Page while navigating

I want the subcategories to show up while navigating...it's set to 1 in my admin. still not working. even changed back to custom template to see if that worked...it didn't. So at least I know it's not something wrong with my template. Any ideas?

Yes, that's why I'm so confused. As stated in my first post I changed back to the zen-cart template to see if it would work...trying to see if it was just a problem with my custom template. But that didn't even work. ???

Try adding more products. Single product category goes straight to product.

Have you entered a display:none in the stylesheet.css that is controlling this??????????????????
