Google analytics problem installing

Are ALL the folders under template_default supposed to be copied?
And if so, are all the FILES inside them supposed to be copied as well and put under CUSTOM so that the CUSTOM (in the file manager) looks JUST LIKE the list and contents of the template_default?

NO
Just create any of the folders there in the template_default that contain files that you are going to edit.
Then only place/copy the files that you edit to your template

Hi,
I, too, based my template on the Classic template. I named it differently and I created subfolder common within my template folder. I tried editing the tpl_header.php file or the tpl_footer.php from template_default/common to hold my Google Analytics code but in tpl_header.php it goes within the body tag, and in the bottom of the tpl_footer.php file it is not dead above the /body tag but rather between the eof- site copyright display code and the bof- parse time display code.
Can anyone help?

I think I found the answer: the file to edit is html_header.php.
