Where do I edit the header? Can't find link! Help!

Hello, I've looked in all the FAQ's and threads on how to change and add my own header but only get one recurring answering...that it's in (includes/languages/english/)

Where is that? I it under tools? There is no such thing called header.php within the zencart that I can find.

Once I find it...how many pixels is it so that I can replace it with our own header?

You can't do that from the admin.

1) Get a good text editor like Notepad++ or Crimson Editor to edit php files.

2) Get an FTP client like FileZilla.

3) Download and unzip Zen Cart on your computer. You'll see the folder/file structure mentioned in all the tutorials/FAQ.

4) Follow the override system (look in the tutorials/FAQ), edit the file and upload the folder to your site.

It's a bit more complex than that, but once you start, you'll be better able to follow the info in the tutorials/FAQ.

Thank you! Everyone assumes I know what I'm doing and have this FTP thing...I've never heard of such a thing! I am downloading filezilla now...hopefully that will be simple to use and all I have to do is download things?...lol Hoping I don't have to know any computer code to do this...and they don't have a book "zencart for dummies" out yet!

Hello again...I've downloaded file zilla...but it doesn't tell me what I am supposed to do here.

Is this where I download all my pictures to? How would any pictures then get uploaded to the header?

You mentioned php What is that about? Do I need files with that for zencart? Am I supposed to creat them? If so, is there some kind of tutorial that teaches you what they are for and how to step by step create them?

I know, all stupid questions...I only know how to create and upload photos with an upload button...and create text with a cut and paste function. I'm in big trouble aren't I?

php is the language Zen Cart is written in. The edits you'll need to make to the files are simple ones, so don't freak.

To use FileZilla, you'll have to enter the FTP information for your website. You should have gotten that info when you got your hosting account. Usually, the FTP address is something along the lines of ftp.yourdomain.com. Once you use Filezilla to connect to your website, you should see a listing of your site in one panel and a listing of your local drive (your computer) in the other. You'll be able to upload (to your site) and download (to your computer) by dragging things back and forth between the panels.

It worked! You should be writing a book! Am I to understand correctly that I now need to simply drag and drop my header into "images"? I found that folder...but there are many subfolders to it.

I see no folder that says header.php...I just don't know what direction to go. I have my header on my computer up on the left ready to drag and drop. Where do I put it?

You are sure a newbie, my friend. Me too, at least at ZenCart.

But you really need a bit of basic knowledge, based on the questions you are asking. I really suggest you do a web search about basic website construction. Otherwise the good folks here are going to have to take the time to teach you some really, really basic stuff that you should know, such as how to uploand and download files to and from your web server.

Just a suggestion, my friend. We were all there once!

Thanks for the advice....I had no idea how little I knew! It's just so frustrating not knowing where to start...and I don't even know what topics I should be researching for what this all entails. I can drop and drag...no problem! Just don't know to where and why or what it's for! Maybe they do make a book...web designing for dummies!...lol
