Default Add Rewrite Rules to Apache?

I instald ceon-uri-mapping on both live and test sites, and the test sight is fine but live site i cant seem to get the rewrite to work with out a 404 and 500 my host site up graded to php 5 and there help center has posted the following. users are not able to have php flags in their .htaccess file. Having php flags in .htaccess files is a common cause of internal server errors on servers with phpSuExec enabled..
could this be my problem. and if so how do I fix it.
P.S I know nough to kill my site
    mycarts Version are 1.3.8
    PHP Version: 5.2.6 (Zend: 2.2.0)HTTP Server: Apache/1.3.41

See if they allow a "Custom" php.ini file for your account, then ask them for the correct php.ini statement to replace the .htaccess flag directive

Not familiar with the ceon-uri-mapping code or why they are using a flag directive. Might have to ask them or use another SEO url module
