    Default Can't Set-up Download...Help!

I have a text that I would like to offer as a free download. Here's how I tried to set it up:

I have FTP'd it to the Download folder.

    edit product:
    In stock
    Free? No
    Call for price? No
    Priced by attributes? No
    Price: 0
    Virtual? No, shipping address required
Always free shipping? No, normal shipping rules apply
Quantity box? No, do not show quantity box
    Qty min: 1
    Qty max: 0
    Qty units: 1
    Qty min/unit mix: No
    Qty: 1e+6

    Product Attributes:
    selected Option Names: Documentation
Options Value: MS Word - English
put "10" in the "Order" box under "Prices and Weights,"
typed in filename (both with extension and without extension) under downloadable products
    Expiry days: 0

Can somebody tell me what I am missing to get this text file downloadable?

    Thanks!
    Mike

What is happening when you order this Product by itself?

    Do you see the checkout_shipping?

    Do you see the checkout_payment?

    Do you see the checkout_confirmation?

    Do you see the checkout_success?

Do you see this in the Admin ... Customer ... Orders ...

Do you see this in the Catalog on the My Account and when you view the order?

    What specifically is not working?

It takes me to checkout. That's not supposed to happen.

And it's not downloading at all.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for responding.

Well, I'd like to keep the customers in my store instead of redirecting them to an HTML link.

How do I get the filename of the document I want to have as a download to get stored in the attribute section? (It never remembers it after I type it in.)

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

No, Mike......what Misty was telling you is that when you create the product description you can add a link to a piece of text something like "Download Here", and have it linked to a folder on your site. Then when the customer clicks on it, the download starts, never leaving the page their on.

You're in luck, as I'm setting up a new site right now, and have just that kind of thing set up. Go HERE and click the link just below the image that says "Download Preview Here"

    Hope this helps.

Can someone please explain this to me. Or direct me to the directions. I have been trying and looking of instructions for 6 Hours. I am doing something wrong but can't figure it out.

Well, while creating your description, put the words "Download Here" in there, and add a hyperlink to your file you want people to download.

So, let's say your file you want them to download is called "readme.pdf", and is in your "download" folder like: "public_html/download/readme.pdf"

Next, if you want this link to be in your products' description, and you're using HTMLArea to create this description, and it reads something like:

"You can read all about this products specs in the "readme.pdf" file by clicking HERE.

Then, highlight the word "HERE", and click on the "insert link" icon at the top of the editor (it looks like 2 chain links) and add your link in there, like http://www.your_site.com/download/readme.pdf .

When you save it, you can go to that product and test your download, which should start immediately upon clicking "HERE", and should look something like:

You can read all about this products specs in the "readme.pdf" file by clicking HERE.

Notice how the word "HERE" now has the same url as the above url.

    Hope this helps.

Okay I have that part but I guess the mistake I am making where the zip folder is. I have the zip folder in downloads. Bit when I type in bearlymakinit.com/public_html/download/1308.zip When you go to the store and click on download here you get the following message.

    Not Found

The requested URL /bearlymakinit.com/public_html/download/1308.zip was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    I have tried putting http://bearlmakinit
    https://bearlymakinit
    http://xxxxxx@bearlymakinit -
http://xxxxx.com - I get basically the same message on all of them.

You can see what I mean by clicking on
    http://bearlymakinit.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=125

Do I need to set the free designs to another folder?

I read you post again about 10 times and I finally got it thru my thick skull I did not need the public_html in there. Once I took it out I got it working.

    You are my hero!!!

    Thank you Debbie
