help question Moving Live Zen Cart to another server...

    Hi there,
I'm moving my Zen Cart from one hosting server to another...How this should be the right way?...

What I am planing to do: download the root (installation directory) => fresh install on the new server=>change the DNS (move the Domain name)=> upload the files to the new /public_html, overwriting the new installed files=>job done.
Am I missing something or is really that simple?...
...well I was thinking alternative way: make a full back up on the old server=>download it=>upload to the new server=>restore, but there is a few problems doing it that way... first the domain is an addon domain on the old server (hence moving it), plus I've got quiet few databases there (7 or 8), because been doing some experimental installation, etc and can't recognize which of all is the one for the site I want to move...so basically can't keep the database and have to create new one...? is that right?...
    an thoughts welcome.
    thanks

You can identify which database is being used by your site by viewing the includes/configure.php file. Database name is clearly listed.

Why not have your new host move the files for you - unless they CHARGE to do it?

    Hi,
I'll have a look at that configure.php now... let say I find the right one, how to transfer it to the new server (down and upload or is something else?)?...
The new host offering free of charge courtesy(?!) site transfers, but I'm not willing to give them access and as I said there is another two live sites on the old server and I'm afraid they'll mess it up... :)

Thanks kobra, I'll go trough the tutorials now...

They have access whether you know it or not, but may not excersise it without permission??
Not what I would call a good start to a new host that you do not trust???

So...I messed up myself already ....
did a new ZC installation on the new server while waiting the domain to be moved (DNS)... then after few hours it finally showed up the fresh installed Zen... i tried to log into /admin with my newly set pass...i couldn't...tried few times...than entered the old user and pass with no success... there is a option to resend the pass... suppose to be sent to [email protected], ...then realize that i havent set that email to my new account...then i got angry and decide to reinstall the cart again...couldn't...fantastico says it is one script installed cant overwrite... then i got angrier went to the Cpanel and deleted the database...went to /public_html and delete everything in there...tried again with the install...same result... went to the reseller account and delete the whole cpanel and everything connected with the site in question... tried to create a new account about it...it failed... something to do with the DNS...so i went to the old host and change the dns nameservers to it again... and now i'm nowhere... not sure what actually i've done...is it disaster or still can be fixed?...

Are your files still on the "old" host server? Can you still access their cpanel to get a database backup?
