Java script in header bizarrness!

OK...not sure if this is a Zen issue or not...

Still working on an upgrade.
Old store is 1.3.0.2

I did a full upgrade on a backup store and database and everything works great... just about ready to do it on the live database..

but noticed something weird....

We have a Javascript drop down menu that works great here

but in the upgraded site

the java menu doesn't show up.....
if you look at the actual source of the page...it is there, but doesn't show.
There is another javascript in the header (a slide show) that works perfectly in both the old and new site....


This is driving me crazy...
why wouldn't a java script not show up... even it it is in the source of the page?
