help question How to add options to my products? color ect? help! =)

    version 1.3.8

I am severely confused as how to add even basic options to any of the products I have. Where do I start?

So I have horse lead ropes, I would like for the customer to be able to choose thier choice of color, lenght. How do I make that happen?

Then how do I charge more or less per option?

    I have realridertack. org

    Thanks!

I did see the option value name and such, but did not see where to choose each individual product to be able to add an option to.

I don't know about Caralyn, but I've clicked on on tutorials and find it to be vague and confusing. I'm intelligent and figuring out how to do/create/run things is really what I do for a living, but I'm finding this set up to be very challenging and aggravating.

One of the main issues I'm having is simply the definitions. I couldn't even find the term "attributes" in the glossary. I know what the "definition" of "attributes" is, but I'm entirely sure how ZenCart uses these terms. In some cases it refers to "attributes" and in others it refers to "options", yet seems to be referring to the same thing with different words.

What I'd like to see are some example charts of how to set up products with a few common arrangements.

I'm trying to do very much what Caralyn is doing... I'm selling bodypaints (www.LiquidLatex.net). I would like a number of line items, each basically the same (e.g. "Liquid Latex Body Paint") and each with the option of 3 sizes (16 oz, 32 oz, 128 oz) and each with the option of 19 colors (Black, Blue, Red, Purple, etc.).

That way people may order, if they so desire, a 16 oz red and a 32 oz red and a 16 oz blue and a 128 oz purple, etc... on down the rows.

I know this must be pretty basic (I think), but the trial and error method of setting it up has proved to be ineffective for me, and the reading the tutorial has proved to be time consuming and still ineffective.

If I just overlooked the tutorial and you could point me in the right direction, that would be great. If there's a chart posted somewhere, also great. If there's a simple explanation and you could describe the process, I'm sure we would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    De,
    This may help:
If confusing Pm me your number if live in US

    Attributes, Force to Select

Right now I can add to the cart and not select a color.. BAD. I am automatically linked to the shopping cart with the default color Black, but really I wanted White..

The beauty of this procedure: Is a warning box appears at the top of the page stating they have not selected a attribute color you offer to the customer.

Example of what it should look like in the Option Value Manager:

(Add the following Option Values below)
    1. I used color as an example: Use the option name value you would like:
    2. The 0, 10, 20, 30 are sort orders below

    Please Select Color 0
    Black 10
    Brown 20
    White 30

Now in Attribute Controller for the product with this Option Name Value:

    1. Add, Please Select Color to product, sort order 0
    2. Associate the flag properties to Please Select Color
    3. Under Attribute Flags: the colored boxes
    4. Yellow box, Used for Display purpose only: Click Yes
    5. Tan box, Default Attribute to be marked selected: Click Yes
    6. Add, the following black, brown, white also with sort orders, and leave the flag properties to default (do not touch)

Of course you will duplicate this procedure for sizes also... :)

KDB, While I appreciate your prompt response very much, it's still a bit unclear how to set up the order form page under the admin->config. I realize that's where I need to bem but controls and instructions are vague.

Haredo, thanks for your instructions. I'm trying what you've laid oout for me. Maybe I'm just tired, but still having a bit of trouble finding what you suggested. "Force to select"? Is that an option that I'm somehow overlooking somewhere?

My ZenCart is set up under the directory www.LiquidLatex.net/BuyLatex (in case it helps to see what/how I'm screwing this up.

    Thanks again.

    Ca,
You are most welcome, glad you got the hang of how to set up attributes.. Those dang little thinggys...

I would use ExPages for the header, and associate the names you spoke as above in the post.
