my banners STOPPED working

I had banners in the side boxes that were set up in the banner manager. They worked fine for awhile but now do not go to the URLs defined. They go to a blank page with a link back to my site like:
http://briancollinsracing.com/store/...banner&goto=10

INSTEAD of the defined URL:
http://machinetechracing.com/files/index.php?id=1

You might get the Debug Tool from the Free Add-Ons and see what errors are generated ...

This is the error that gets generated by this utility when I attempt to click on the link in the sidebar:

Not sure what I did to english.php BUT replacing it with the original, fixes the problem.

Here is what I found caused the error:

I tried to change the footer to link to my website. The instructions at https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=131 are not exactly helpful.

The instructions say to change the text:
'Copyright &copy; 200* <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com"

Problem was created when I looked at the text and triec to figure out what to do with the extra "dots" and "single quotes" that were there....actual text is:
' <a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT) . '" target="_blank">' . STORE_NAME . '</a>.


My attempts to edit it ended up with:

<a href="http://mysite.com" target="_blank">mysite.com</a>.
and THAT freaked out PHP.

Not sure of the correct syntax to edit the footer!!
