I don't want to create anohter DB due to restrictions from my host.

I would say it was time to seek another host that provides tools to support your online business!!!

I have one database that I use and don't want to take any chances on breaking my production site or making any changes to the admin

As I previously posted, there are changes being made on a continuing basis

Make a backup first as this is always advised

You are adding to the DB anytime a new product is added, a new customer signs up, a new order is placed...
