How do I make a Gift Guides Side Box like this example?

I've searched diligently (forums and add-ons) but cannot find the answer. I did, however, find a near 'exact' example of what I want to do. It is the "Gift Guides" aspect of Kuroi's latest project (done beautifully, I might add) at the following: http://www.mollybrownlondon.com/

It's on the left of the page (below "Collections"). I really want something that is separated from the Catagories section such as this is.

Does anyone know how this is done? I want to do pretty much the same exact thing except my entries would be:

"Gifts for Mom"
"Gifts for Dad"
"Gifts for Graduation"
and etc.

As a side note: I'd really be interested in knowing how He/She made the Categories/sub-categories look as they do, as well (again- quite nice).

The "he" in Kuroi did this by modifying the categories listing mod and then styling the single list that results to look like separate boxes.

I believe that it was the "she" in Kuroi who gets the credit for the Gift Guide. That elegance is achieved by simple markup and some CSS. Unfortunately we're on different continents at the moment, sowing down a little my ability to check with her how the content was generated. Watch this space.

Further update. I'd like to say that this was a clever use of Zen Cart's sub categories grid, but it turns out to be no more than an extended category description with all the HTML needed included in with the category's description text and then styled through the stylesheet. Crude but effective.

How can I do (or obtain) the same or similar for my store? I checked your Web Design site and it appears that you only do complete (Total websites; from beginning) projects for hire. Is it possible to get more detailed information?
