Help! Can't install template.

Hi I am in desperate need of help. I have deleted my template files by mistake without backing them up and now i am back to the stock template. I can not load a new template onto my zencart. I've tried multiple times with no luck. I have also edited my core files for zencart. I was Wondering If there was a way to reinstall zencart with out losing my 400+ products I have listed. my website is www.grannysgiftsales.com/store2 . Thank you in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum.

At this point a reinstall could cause more problems than it solves.

Most of your date is stored in your database so as long as you still have that you are in very good shape. Make sure to take a backup NOW so that you have a copy.

As to the Template, what exactly did you delete?

well I had purple shades as my template and i deleted from /public_html/store2/includes/templates and in that folder was the purple shades template folder and i erased that because i was trying to update the template.

Have you re-uploaded the Purple Shades Template installing it like you did the first time? That is all it should take to get the Template working again.

yes i have tried this before and If you refer back to the website now (www.grannysgiftsales.com) this is what happens.

After switching Templates did you remember to use:

Admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller - click the 'reset' button at page bottom

ok something really bad just happend. when i tried to go to layout box controller i get this error message.

You have not uploaded the Template as per the Template instructions. Some files are missing.

Also looks like you are not using the Template overrides system and/or you have deleted some Zen Cart default files.

Also re-upload the 'includes' dir. from the default Zen Cart.

To prevent problems, also make sure you have backups of these two files:

admin/includes/configure.php
includes/configure.php

Both files include important information which you need.

i have read the install instructions and i uploaded the only files there were. it didnt say anything for extra files.




Installation Instructions for New PurpleShades Template for ZenCart 1.3.6

PurpleShades template remains one that still has popularity. This release, removes all additional tables for this template. This is a change that will allow styling in the same manner as other templates based upon the template_default files.


1. Create the new template
==========================

The best and easiest way to install this template is to use your ftp client, and drag/transfer the complete contents of the includes folder to your ZenCart install. As all of the files are structured like ZenCart and are contained in their own folders, you can determine where they belong and add them to the correct areas.

If you want to rename the directory, you go right ahead. But be sure to adjust the template_info.php file accordingly..


2. Select the Template

Log in to Admin and from the "Tools" menu select "Template Selection"
You should see "purpleshades" listed as one of the installed templates in the box on the right hand side of your screen.
Click on the edit button.
Choose purpleshades from the drop down menu that appears
Click update


3. Turn on Layout Boxes
=======================

New templates install with all the layout boxes turned off so from the "Tools" menu select "Layout Boxes Controller" and at the bottom select reset. Now you can turn on/off as many or few as you wish.

4. Adjust column and cloumn box widths
=======================

While in the admin adjust the column widths to allow correct appearance, this is recommended but you can adjust to your needs but you will have to re-create the header images to match a box width adjustment.

So in admin from the "configruation" menu select "Layout Settings" and Column Width - Left Boxes and set to 135px do the same for the Right Boxes.

Also select the Column Width - Left and check that it is set to 150px, check the same for the Right.

This is all that should be required...

Now the purpleshades template is setup and configured to display as designed.

The logo.gif has been created as a single image, you can replace this image in the templates/purpleshades/images folder with one of your own. If you intend on using ezpages in the header, find #navEZPpagesTop in the stylesheet.css file and uncomment the padding statement to allow for correct alignment.
Purpleshades as provided does not play well with categories tabs in the header setting from the admin and several spacing adjustements can be made to allow their use.
