Where do I find 'includes/templates/ ' - so I can add a new folder with my own images?

    An,
    2. Do you have FTP software?

If No, stop ... you need to obtain a decent FTP software package such as FileZilla (free), FlashFXP or another FTP software program to transfer files back and forth from your computer to your webserver.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to move files and folders from your local computer to your website or from your website to your local computer. If you click on the links in haredo's post, it'll take you to a site where you can download an FTP client. I use Filezilla personally.

Thanks - I have done the download but still do not understand how to open 'includes/templates'? Is this in zen cart or Filezilla?
I am starting to feel like an idiot!

When you configure and run Filezilla, it will show you two windows. One is your local computer's folders and files, and the other is the folders and files on your hosting account. Somewhere in the latter are the folders and files of your Zencart installation. One of the folders will be includes, and under that, a folder named templates.

No, you're not an idiot. But it looks like you're going to be climbing up a fairly steep learning curve. Don't worry, we've all been there, done that.

Do you have an editor? Not a word processor, an editor. It can do many things with code that a word processor would only muck up. There are, as usual, many to choose from, and even some good free ones. Notepad++ is often recommended.

Now, as to where these folders are... What stage are you at? Do you have a local copy of Zen Cart on your hard drive? Is it unzipped? If not, unzip it now.

You'll see it is simply a collection of files in folders. The folder you'll mainly deal with is inside the zen-cart-v1.3.8a-etc folder. It's called includes. Inside it are more files and folders. One of these folders is called templates. Inside that you'll see a couple of folders, classic and template_default. Classic is the name of the default template in Zen Cart. The other one contains many files used by all templates.

So that gets you where you wanted to go. Now do some poking around just to see what's there. Look into the css folder and the images folder. Compare the contents of the images folder in the classic folder to the contents of the images folder back up at the same level as the includes folder. Then go to the Tutorials/FAQs link up at the top of this page and read all about the override system. You'll be glad you did.

    Hope this gets you started.

    Nice post, Website Rob.

If you download and unzip Zen Cart on your local drive, you'll be able to see the folder/file structure and you'll understand what the tutorials are talking about. You can create folders for your custom template on your computer, copy the appropriate files into those folders and edit them. As Website Rob mentioned, Notepad++ is a good text editor. So is Crimson Editor. Both can be downloaded free from the net.

Once you've made your changes, use your FTP client to upload the folders to the matching locations on your server.
