I'm a new user working with ZC 1.3.0. Under Catelog - Categories/Products, I find a button for creating a new product but can't find a method for creating a new category. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Please note the caveat
Note: Subcategories can hold sub-subcategories or products, but not both at the same level.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. I'm just trying to create some categories for my products.
Kobra is saying that you can't have both subcategories and products inside a category.
Categories can contain either products or sub categories. Not both.
This all means ...
When a Product is added, the NEW CATEGORY button disappears ...
When a Category is added, the NEW PRODUCT button disappears ...
NOTE: if you "just started" ... why are you using that buggy, security risk, feature lacking version of v1.3.0?![]()

i'm having the same problem.
i understand that the basic premise of zen cart is that you create a category, which then has either products or subcategories inside.
however, i have this problem:
http:// gusset.net/ shop
where i have only one product displayed.
if i follow the tutorial at: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=271 i should be able to go to:
admin>> catalog >>categories/products
and choose to create a new category.
there is no "new category" button.
so, what am i doing wrong, and where do i go/how do i manage to create a new category?
in admin, i also have an additional "WARNING: You have Products in the Top Level Category. This will cause pricing to not work properly in the Catalog. Products found: 1"
however, i can't delete the product in admin. can anyone suggest a workaround?
tia.
As the previous posts mentioned, once you have a product in a category, you can't add subcategories to that category, even if it's the 'Top' category. Why can't you delete that product in Admin?
HELP....!! I have the website www.casusguvenlik.com and just recently installed Zen Cart plus Turkish language pack. Now, I am having an issue with adding categories. I had 2 categories added last week (i think prior to installing the language pack) and since then I cannot add any category anymore. I really don't know what I am doing wrong. Reading the tutorials and looking at the logic buttons of creating category, I am getting the screen where I have to name the category etc. But when I'd like to submit it, I return to the zen homepage automatically (?). Then when I get back into Catalog/Categories I don't see the category I was trying to add.
I asked my support (justhost), but they recommended to re-install Zen Cart. I really don't know if this is the right approach, as I have to do everything all over again I guess.
Is there anybody who recognizes this problem and does anybody have a solution? I'd really appreciate it.
Many thanks.
This is really strange, we suddenly started having the same problem on a shop we have been running for years.
I am trying to add a top-level category (there are already 40 top-level categories, no products in the top level obviously). It lets me go through the process of adding a category, I hit submit, and I get redirected to the admin homepage. When I go back to the category manager, no category has been added.
Running 1.3.8a
PHP 5.2.9
MySQL 5.0.81
Any ideas?
That's one of the possible symptoms of installing the recent admin security patch incorrectly - usually installing it to your cart rather than your admin folder.
