Product Attributes

Hi I am trying to add attributes to certain products and can't figure it out. I sell wood letters and there are different, sizes, colours etc. I would like a box that when the customer types in the name (i.e. Sam) the quantity box will automatically show how many letters the customer has typed in and the price will show the price accordingly.
