Failed opening required '[admin]/includes/application_top.php'

I have just installed Zen-Cart 1.3.8a
As a stand alone on my server
No add ons
The site is running a Xoops 2.3.3 website... I did not load the zen-cart into the Xoops directories... it is in essence a sub domain
I have been trying to enter the admin area... this is what I see when I attempt to enter admin:

Warning: require(includes/application_top.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/html/Shop/admin/index.php on line 23

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/application_top.php' (include_path='.:/php/includes:/usr/share/php') in /var/www/html/Shop/admin/index.php on line 23


What does this mean and how do I fix i?

My line 23 in that file

require('includes/application_top.php');

Your ERROR

Permission denied in /var/www/html/Shop/admin/index.php on line 23

Check your permissions or chmod to 644 or maybe higher for your server for includes/application_top.php

Thanks for the suggestions...

I changed the permissions to 744 on that file... no change I keep receiving the same error;
I then upped the permissions and went to 777... again no change!

Here is line 23 from the index.php file:
require('includes/application_top.php');

From all of the research I've done this should work!!!

With your Xoops install, do you have either a htaccess or a local php.ini file that might be altering normal direction?

You can try remnaming the admin folders htaccess to see if it is an issue - - but if this allows admin access you really need to determine what it is about your server or modified account settings that is interferring for future security issues
