    Default transparent favicon?

    I am having a really hard time making my favicon transparent

    I have tried multiple blog and forum suggestions...

    I downloaded a .ico plug in for my photoshop....saved my 16x16 image with a transparent backround...no luck

    I tried saving it in ifranview with the option to save transparent color....no luck.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Cody

    When you state "transparent" I assume you are referring to the background.

    Make it a 16X16 .gif, name it favicon.gif and edit a copy of /includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php for your template

    Find and edit:
    Code:
    define('FAVICON','favicon.ico');
    To read:
    Code:
    define('FAVICON','favicon.gif');

    Thank you for response!

    To clarify...yes, I have a round logo and am trying to make just the round logo show up, currently it has a white square around it.

    I tried what you suggested and am still getting a white square. I can save as an ico file in infranview. Is it better to make this happen as a gif?

    It is obviously something I am doing in my image editing software, I just cant get it right...

    any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    i don't know what image editing you use. but when i want to save gif images. i use export command and use alpha transparency to save the gif..
    if your image editing has this feature , use it , you might select the alpha color , so in your case would be white .

    You can also save your favicon as a png and simply rename the extension from .png to .ico, I do that every time I change mine and it works like a charm...just make sure your windows folder options are set to allow you to see file extensions...Tools>>Options>>View>>Untick Hide extensions for known file types :)
