Customer Phone Number

I am having problems with customer phone numbers, the phone number is required at sign up but I notice that customers are able to create account without a phone number or the phone number is being lost somewhere between the site and the database.
I tried to create account without phone number but I always get an error message. So the phone number is indeed required what really drive me nuts is that when I see the customer order in the admin there is no phone number.

Does anyone have an idea what is going on or where I can start to pin point that problem.

You would half to place the code in admin/orders.php to find the call of customers phone number and place in the right place..

It should be already in the right place. Some customer already have phone number showing in their account. I gave even looked into the customer information in the database using myphpadmin, if the customer phone number is not listed in the admin area it is also missing in the database. But still if you try to create an account without a phone number you do get an error (phone number is missing). This is such an odd problem.

They could be entering 10 spaces as I just did. (customer - Jim Dandy) A lot of us don't see any reason to give you our telephone numbers to order stuff online.

If you ship with FedEx you need a phone number, I do have a good account with FedEx so it saves me money to use them as my main shipper, also if there is something wrong with the order or if there an update for the order we can call the customer and let them know, especially if we need an answer right away.

I made an account and tried to spoof the form w/o a phone number... but it caught me and I was required to give one.

None of my business but... No way in hell would I buy anything from someone requiring any captcha for the privilege, much less such a long one.

Also, FYI you will get your IP blacklisted by checking the newsletter by default.

I am no expert on blacklisting but I have never bought anything from a website that didn't have the email newsletter checked, and I buy everything online. Most of the website are well known website; if they are doing it I might as well do it too.

What happens is Joe Blow and 100 others checkout and miss this... or the see it an forget.

3 months later you do a newsletter and 80 of the 101 send it to spam as they don't remember asking you for emails.

Of these 80 75% will be on free email or organized ISPs... which monitor user spammed mail for HoneyPot or the SpamHaus or others. So then you domain goes on the watch list...

6 months later you send another (as people will hardly ever bother to unsubscribe) and another 80 or so get spammed by users totally 160 and now the ISPs and email service provider (GMAIL is a monster on this) move you to the list

Now no one gets your mail.

I am new to this and have been reading the small number of posts about telephone numbers without finding my problem. I do not find in config/customer details, any place to edit the phone number. Personally, I do not want it as a required thing. How then do I deselect it?

I haven't used it, so I don't know if it works with the current Zencart version, but you might try it.
