Customer Phone Number

I am new to this and have been reading the small number of posts about telephone numbers without finding my problem. I do not find in config/customer details, any place to edit the phone number. Personally, I do not want it as a required thing. How then do I deselect it?

I haven't used it, so I don't know if it works with the current Zencart version, but you might try it.

I am having the same problem in that some orders do not have the phone number. I also tried to create an account without the phone number and it wouldn't let me.

Does anyone else that is having this problem have mods installed? I was wondering if the problem could possibly be connected to a mod.

Then again I have reset my admin activity log and wonder if that did something. Not getting create account emails or getting them without phone numbers may have started after doing that. I can't remember for sure tho.

Here is a list of mods that I have. I've been using these mods for over a year I'm sure without any problems. I did move my web site around the end of February to a different host (host-99) but the problem didn't start then :

Recover Cart
Edit Orders
User Tracking
Pay by Fax/Phone
Google Froogle
Google XML Sitemap
Email Archive Manager

also I've added a few sideboxes.

I'm running Zen Cart version 1.3.8a
Perl 5.8.8
PHP 5.2.8

One other problem is that I have my cart set to send me a copy of the Create an Account emails, but I only get them sporadically now. I just don't know where to start looking for an answer to these problems!

Hi all,
I have exactly the same problem that everyone is describing.
Some orders come through without phone numbers. We
ship to a lot of international customers, and you need the
buyer's phone number for the customs forms.

I would love to know what is going on here, since the phone
number field IS a required field.

Do you use PayPal Express Checkout? I turned that off and only use the PayPal Webiste Payments Standard. I read on another thread (I don't know which thread it was now) that could be what the problem was so I'm trying it. So far so good, new orders have all had phone numbers.

If you prefer the PP Express you could set your Pay Pal account to require a phone number although I don't think they recommend it.

Ah ha!! I reviewed a bunch of our orders and the ones that don't have phone
numbers all used the PayPal Express method of checkout! Finally, it's nice knowing
the cause of the "missing phone number"!!
