What am I missing?

Hmmmm, I set up new categories and deleted old ones in the catalog that were there with the original software setup......

When I go to my page I see the old categories still listed.... I don't see any of the new categories I put in.....Is there more to it than just adding/deleting categories to the catalog? Do actually have to manually change the HTML on the pages themselves?

These might sound like stupid questions - but are you deleting/adding categories/products from the same database that your site is using?
Perhaps working in Admin on a local copy of the store and then checking the web-based version for changes?
Are both your store and admin configuration files set with the same database details?

Well, I thought I was using the same one.....but let me ask a stupid question....How do I verify they are the same?

check both the configure files:
admin/includes/configure.php and
includes/configure.php

make sure the database details are the same (near the end of the file)

If you're working in a local copy of admin and web copy of catalog (or vice versa) you'll have different addresses in the browser address bar (ie http://localhost.... and http://www.yoursite.com)

I compared both files....they are the same.....and I checked them on the server....not using the local.....

Any other ideas? I'm getting the feeling that I did something wrong or didn't know to do something.......
