help question Ideal server setup : which versions of PHP, Apache, MySQL?

    Hi all,

I'll have a new Linux server setup for me in a few days, basically I can request whatever I want, so which versions of PHP, Apache, MySQL should I request?

I know that on the wiki page ( http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p...n:Requirements ) it says :

    PHP 4.4.x or higher
    Apache 1.3.x or 2.x
MySQL 3.2x or 4.0.x (with significant memory resources devoted to the MySQL processes)
    Register Globals = off
    PHP Safe_Mode = off

But should I get PHP5.2 so that it'll be easier when I upgrade to Zen Cart 2 later on?
    Should I get Apache 1.3.x or 2.x?
    Should I get MySQL 3.2.x or 4.0.x?

    Thanks in advance !
    Shirley

As long as you're using Zen Cart v1.3.8a (or newer whenever a newer version is released), you should be able to run on PHP 5.2.x and MySQL 3 or 4 or 5.

I suggest going for PHP 5.2.x and MySQL 4.1 or 5.0 (since 4.1 or newer will be required for v2.0)

As to Apache, that's up to you. While there were some issues with Apache2 in its early days, I've not heard of any major showstoppers lately ... perhaps someone else who's using Apache 2 can chime in for you on that. As far as Zen Cart's concerned, Apache 1.3 or 2.x is fine.

I think the bigger question regarding versions is not what ZenCart requires, but what os software down the road is going to be PCI compliant.
