update_zone is not defined

Only recently I get an JS error message on the following pages:
Log-in, create_account and shopping_cart.

update_zone is not defined
and a syntax error as a bonus:
} else {

I haven't changed anything involving JS lately, so I haven't got a clue what is causing this, let alone how to solve this.

If I put my shipping estimator into a popup, the error message moves to the popup, so it must be related to the shipping estimator.
I suspect jscript_addr_pulldowns.php to be clashing somewhere with somewhat.
The only modification made to the shipping calculator, is that the states/zipcodes are deleted from the template file years ago with version 1.26, and never have given me error messages before.

Could not find any solutions on the boards, so is there someone who could shine a light on this problem?

Yes, it is possible to place an order, but in IE8 there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the left down corner saying "done, but with mistakes".
In Firefox error console I see a syntax error and an "update_zone is not defined"

I wanted to get rid of this, because it does not give confidence to the webshop.

Am I the only one seeing this?
