Tony, it worked like a champ!
I changed the file extension of the current catagorie.php (.phpF) to disable it, and test the new catagorie.php without overriding it.
Brought in the clean version of the catagorie.php and it fired right up!

im glad that worked. , also as Rob mentioned , you may want to upgrade to latest version of zencart ( once you comfortable with how things works )
