Default mass edit of prices in a category? And mass removal of item weight in category

Is it possible to do a mass price update across one category?

For instance, I have many categories. All of products in 1 category are 59.95, in another category they could be 69.95. Is it possible to do a mass update of them? I need to update the prices, and doing them one by one is tedious and aggravating.

Also, by mistake, I entered the item weight on a number of items- can I easily remove this on a mass scale?

    Thanks.

This will help you edit both http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=101

Prices can be changed sitewide, while weight is changed by each... but in a quick list view and one time save.

    thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, the bible is more descriptive than the installation instructions that come with that download.

    They read as:

    1. Copy/FTP the files and directories in the zencart_root folder to the root of
your Zen Cart installation, making sure to preserve the file structure.
    2. Go to "Tools->Install SQL Patches" in your Zen Cart administration area.
Click the "browse" button and locate the "quick_update.sql" file
contained in this release. Click the upload button and your system should now be
    ready to go!

I don't have a zencart_root folder in this installation. I was able to get the quick_update.sql file to load, however, these horribly vague instructions do not tell me where to go to use this software, where it's really supposed to go.

Currently it has been uploaded to the main directory of my website. As that's where zen cart has been installed to. not my domain.com/store

    just www.mydomain.com

does it go in the admin folder? do the respective contents of the quickupdate download go in the respective /admin folder of the zen cart installation?

these are things I don't know.

Also it mentions something about editing some sort of table, which I assume is a database table. Here is the quote from the instructions:

To make the products_purchase_price and margin feature work "products_purchase_price" (i.e. DECIMAL 15,4) and "products_margin" (i.e. DECIMAL 15,2) need to be added to your products tabel.

What does this mean? And if someone answers me, please, don't tell me in database speak. I know nothing about php, sql, or any other code. And I frankly, don't have the patience to read a ton of books to learn it.

I expected this software (zen cart) to be plug in, install, and go. And so far, it's not.

    not thrilled.

no one can help me out?

I installed the quick updates sql patch. But nothing else works. The instructions included with that download are too vague, and I'm stupid.

Please help. I'm seriously trying to avoid updating the prices 1 by 1.

If (like most of us), you are not familiar or comfortable with SQL queries to do mass changes to your data, then (particularly for product-related data), you could use Easy Populate (version 1.2.5.4 is appropriate for ZC 1.3.8a).

This program enables you to export your product data to a Tab-Delimited TXT file, which can then be opened and edited in a spreadsheet program, such as MS Excel, or (better) OpenOffice.

Making quick and otherwise time-consuming changes is much easier in a spreadsheet, where you can use the spreadsheet's many functions to duplicate cell data, perform calculations and re-organise records. When you've edited the data in the spreadsheet, it is then saved again as a tab-delimited TXT file and through the Easy Populate interface in your admin, is then used to "update" the affected product data.

I have written a WIKI on Easy Populate to help novices and you can find it here.

Easy Populate is excellent for product data management purposes, as long as you appreciate its limitations and follow its rules. The WIKI item takes you through the most important of these.
