Zencart, like practically ALL reputable carts, sets a session cookie, and this is a critical component as it tracks activity during the time a shopper is on your website. Remember, lots of people may be shopping at the same time, so the cookie makes sure that the program knows which shopper is doing what. Just imagine the commotion if shopper "A" only wants $10 of goods, but ends up paying for shopper "B" who's just ordered $1000 of goods!

Cookies are VITAL to the process of keeping track, and the cookie system zencart uses is a SESSION COOKIE, meaning it stays live for as long as the shopper is active on the site. The cookie expires when the shopper leaves the site / closes the browser / remains inactive for longer than a few minutes.

I said... Session Cookies. (They expire after the session).

    So...

    <<FILENAME>> <<purpose of cookie>>

    Cookies and Session Cookies
Our site uses cookies called Session Cookies which are used to keep track of your activity in our store. A unique tracking code is placed on your computer while you visit our site. This is a vitally important process as it ensures that our system specifically interacts with your computer to record what you add to your cart and prevents other users (who may be on the site at the same time) from either seeing your activities, or being able to interfere with them in any way. It is also important in ensuring that the calculations made during your shopping visit are accurate and that when you pay for your goods, the amount you are charged is correct.

    Session cookies expire when:-

You leave or log out of our website
    • Close your browser window
    • Remain inactive for a period of time (a few minutes). This is an additional security mechanism to keep your data private, as you may leave your computer (to have a cup of tea, go to the loo, answer the phone) at times.

You might want to add words to the effect of:

If you are logged in and your session expires, any cart contents will be saved in our database until the next time you log in.

Not precisely a cookie function, but relevant info to customers.
