subdomains

hi,
Can someone explain to me what subdomain are used for??
All i know is that they're just other parts of your domain
like www.blabla.yoursite.com,
Can they be used for like a front page into for example
special products?
Like on your home page a customer clicks on specials,
then they are directed to the subdomain with a sort of
home page for your specials before you click on through
to your special products??
Or am i way off the mark??

Subdomains act independently of the main domain and each other. You might be able to do what you suggest, but I don't think it would be easy.

The sites in my sig are all subdomains of my main domain.
